Position Overview
The Intensive Education Access Specialist (IEA) serves as a dynamic bridge between disconnected students and meaningful, sustained learning. This role is centered on re-engaging youth who have experienced chronic absenteeism, social-emotional barriers, academic disruption, or difficulty succeeding in traditional educational environments. The IEA Specialist works proactively and intensively to remove barriers to access while rebuilding trust, motivation, and a sense of belonging within the school community.
Intensive Education Access Specialists meet students exactly where they are — academically, emotionally, and physically. This includes entering school environments to provide direct, hands-on support during the school day and working alongside students in classrooms, hallways, and designated learning spaces to ensure continuity and connection. When necessary, Specialists also engage students in their homes and communities to address attendance barriers, strengthen family partnerships, and reinforce accountability.
Through consistent relationship-building, individualized goal-setting, skill development, and real-time problem solving, the Specialist helps students develop readiness for learning, emotional regulation, executive functioning skills, and positive peer and adult relationships. This work is intensive, responsive, and student-centered, ensuring that each young person’s unique needs are recognized and addressed.
Ultimately, the Intensive Education Access Specialist supports students in building the confidence, stability, and skills necessary to transition successfully into more permanent, sustainable educational placements and to remain meaningfully connected to their learning journey.

Support students in developing self-advocacy, organization, and emotional regulation skills.
Facilitate gradual transitions back into school, work-based learning, or other stable educational environments.
Collaborate with schools to coordinate plans for student success and monitor progress.
Program & Documentation
Maintain accurate records of student sessions, attendance, and progress notes.
Participate in team meetings and trainings focused on trauma-informed, relationship-based practice.
Contribute to the culture of collaboration, reflection, and student-centered growth within NEST.
